I just wanted to thank everybody for visiting my blog. To reach 200.000 views in 3 years time is a personal achievement for me and that is all thanks to you guys.

Now I come from a family that is in no way connected to movies at all, but I loved movies so much since I was a little kid. Back then I owned and collected a lot VHS tapes (Disney films mostly). I annoyed my parents and brother so much, because I never went to play outside with other kids. Instead I would watch my VHS copy of Toy Story over and over again. This love for movies never left me and to this day, and now being a Blu-ray collector, I still love to rewatch movies so many times. Watching movies makes me feel safe and happy. They made me what I am as a person today. It wasn’t until much later that I wanted to take it into another level.

I used to think music was my life (and in some way it still kinda is). I pursued a career as a music producer and I came pretty close to success, but I got bored with it and figured it was not the dream I should follow. While working at a big entertainment store in the centre of Amsterdam, my love for movies came back stronger than ever before, and became dead set to pursue a career in filmmaking. That was seven years ago and it hasn’t changed. The more I learn, the more I love it.

In 2014, right before finishing an online course on Film Analysis, I went to the cinema to see Enemy. I was floored and after watching a lot of those movie analysis videos on YouTube, I desperately wanted to figure that movie out. I saw it three more times, even taking notes during the screening and went home and wrote it all down. I cracked that analysis in a day. It was my teacher that recommended me starting this blog and told me to share the analysis with other people. By only promoting the analysis on the IMDb message board (RIP) the analysis went all over the internet. So most of you probably reached my blog because of that. I am very proud of it and of the discussion that it caused. By making it, I found a place where I could improve my writing and I could do what I love most of all: talk about movies.

I got excited and kind of scared at the same time, because I’m a raving Perfectionist. In these three years, I always wanted to do so many different stuff on the blog as it was/is mostly only movie reviews. This year I finally started to do ‘Weekend Movie Picks’ picking movies that are only shot on 35mm film and review it. Something I actually wanted to do two years ago. It’s a lot of fun to write, but it is so difficult for me to start or finish them. Even my reviews have over 100 revisions before I actually post them. Same goes for my screenplays. Now I know that perfectionism isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it can really get in the way of goals and actions.

So where am I going with this? Well, now as 200.000 of you have visited my site, I want you guys to help me, because this site is as much yours as it is mine. Do you want to see different stuff? Do you guys like my ‘Weekend Movie Picks’ posts and should I do them more often? Do you want me to write something about my Blu-ray collection? Or should I simply just go fuck myself and just stick with movie reviews? Anyway, if you have any suggestions and thoughts, please comment down below and let me know.

And again, I want to thank you so much for showing that my time on this blog is not wasted. You guys are awesome! 300k, here we come!

~ Dani

  1. Congratulations! As it happens, your analysis of Enemy was what brought me to this site in the first place. I find all your reviews thoughtful and well done, and for my money, your interpretation of Enemy is still the definitive one.
